Email Tarot Reading for Patricia*

Question: What do I need to know about my career to ensure financial success?

Reading:

Today I am using the Robin Wood Tarot and I have drawn three cards, which are:

Card 1 – The root of the current situation or problem: Six of Swords

Card 2 - Advice from the Tarot:  Seven of Swords

Card 3 - The possible resolution or outcome:  The Hierophant

DSCN1605 (600 x 425) Card 1 - The root of the current situation or problem: Six of Swords

The suit of swords in Tarot is of the air element and one of its representations is career, particularly if that career is connected with communication or the clever use of words – for example law, sales, marketing or writing. Air is the ultimate element of the mind and therefore the feeling I am getting is that you are an intelligent professional whose work is concerned with ‘brain’ rather than ‘brawn’ working in the communications field.

The card is from the Minor Arcana and depicts a figure on a boat made in the image of a swan, being ferried across the water to a distant shore by a transparent figure standing at the back. In the boat with this figure are six upright swords, points down, three on each side. In the hill across the water is a small cavern with a tiny but visible white star.

The number six is the number of balance and harmony and in the realm of the mind (swords, air) that means the restoration of balance - perhaps after a stressful period - or the need for balance where there is currently disharmony. As all the sixes in the Minor Arcana show a figure in a position above the others in the card, this can also indicate a situation where there is some imbalance or inequality, for example someone dominating proceedings and trying to steer things in a certain direction.

The Six of Swords in a business reading can show the need to incorporate different viewpoints and backgrounds harmoniously, although this is difficult, for example in a situation involving a committee or boardroom with people expressing many different points of view. It can also show the need to share or delegate rather than take everything on yourself (for example the entrepreneur who tries to do everything and ends up spreading themselves too thin.) The card can also show a literal journey across water, which in a business sense would be travelling overseas for a meeting, or even to find new business or to investigate the possibility of expanding or relocating. The fact there is a star there could indicate to me the direction of the East. (I am getting this intuitively, linked to stars on many eastern countries’ flags).

Card 2 – Advice from the Tarot: Seven of Swords

You are asking about achieving financial success and here we have another sword card. This is in the advice position and shows a cloaked figure furtively escaping over a wall at dusk or dawn with five swords under his cloak, concealed from view, while two remain behind in the ground. The sky is cloudy – it could rain and a red flag is flying in the wind on the tent behind him. As I have never noticed this before consciously, I must comment on it and the obvious verbal association with ‘a red flag’ – a warning, usually meaning ‘don’t do this’.  If we link this to the usual meaning of the card which is connected to something rather secretive, devious or underhand then we start to get the message that this has got a ‘red flag’. I am not sure if this makes sense to you Patricia, but the message seems to be that if you are considering doing something impulsive or bending the rules in some way, then that is probably worth a rethink, there may be a better way to achieve what you want (financial success). I am now intuitively getting the saying “if it walks like a duck…”  which connects to something that may seem almost too good to be true – and it probably is!

Looking at another meaning of the card, again related to business, this can mean selecting just a few key ideas from many, so keeping focussed and being prepared to abandon some things in order to move forward, even if it hurts to do this. Maybe you have some projects particularly close to your heart but they are taking up a disproportionate amount of your time? The message here could be to consider abandoning those things not directly related to your goal. It can also tell you that you may need to keep your cards close to your chest or someone may steal your ideas.

Card 3 - The possible resolution or outcome: The Hierophant

Our first Major Arcana card and so we know it has an important message for you in how to best achieve your goals. This card shows a bishop with his back to a grey stone church or cathedral blessing two small kneeling choirboys who are standing either side of him. His gold and red finery stands out from the rather dull grey of the church. He is clearly a strong and powerful figure.

The Hierophant usually stands for convention, doing things ‘by the book’ following the rules and so on. This seems then to clearly link with the previous card where a red flag appeared to warn against bending the rules. Financial success seems to be achievable if you play the game by the rules, in other words don’t reinvent the wheel. If a certain way of doing things seems to work for others then maybe you could also try to incorporate that rather than wasting energy trying to be different.

The Hierophant can also indicate a strong family connection or a powerful mentor who is authoritarian and does things in a very definite way. Do you know someone like this? What can you learn from them about success? Do you perhaps need a mentor who will keep you working on self-discipline and motivation?

The figure in the centre of the card stands out because of his dress and appearance and so the card can also indicate that you should pay attention to how things look (eg logo, marketing materials, company profile) and how you also come across – the way you look, act, talk. Sometimes appearances ARE important.

The Cards Summarised:

These cards are very interesting because they don’t at first glance, seem to have a connection with finances (usually represented by pentacles/coins). But your question asked what you need to know about your career to achieve financial success and so we are going deeper here. The message seems to be that you need to consider delegating and accepting ideas and advice from others, and being more of a team player at times, even if it goes against the grain. There is also the possibility that you may be travelling overseas.

In addition there seems to be quite a strong message that sometimes playing by the rules and following convention and copying an existing way of doing things, rather than being a maverick or reinventing the wheel can lead to financial success, especially if guided by a strong mentor. And to consider that appearances are important.

This concludes my reading Patricia, and I hope it helps you and gives you the guidance you are looking for. I’d like to wish you all the very best for the future.
